Marathon runner races to $20,200 top-prize win on 2020 Cash scratch-off
A Glen Burnie man can thank his mom — again — for helping him win his third big Maryland Lottery prize in five years. She keeps buying him games as birthday gifts and the running enthusiast keeps on winning!
In December 2015, “Marathon Man” of Anne Arundel County won $1,000 on a Multi-Match ticket. Next, his mom bought a bunch of $2 10X Cash instant tickets from Chesapeake Liquors in Glen Burnie for his birthday and he won $10,000. His birthday was a winner this year, too. He is $20,200 richer because of a 2020 Cash scratch-off she bought as his gift.
“Every year, my mom buys my brother and me a bunch of Lottery tickets, along with other things, for our birthdays,” said “Marathon Man.” Laughing with his mom in the Maryland Lottery’s Winner’s Circle, he added, “but I seem to be the only one winning!”
The 34-year-old didn’t have to finish scratching off his $20 2020 Cash scratch-off gift to know that he won. After revealing his instant ticket’s “winning numbers,” “Marathon Man” got to the third line of his game and found a matching number. The automotive industry employee checked the prize beneath his matching number and revealed his $20,200 win.
“Marathon Man” plans to take his entire family, which includes his brother, father and mother, to Walt Disney World in Florida with his prize. “The last time I was at Disney World I was just 2 years old,” the winner said, revealing his plans for the prize to his mom for the first time while sharing his story with Lottery officials. “I want to take everyone back to Disney World so I can remember it.”
The other half of this lucky team, “Marathon Man’s” mom, usually gets her gift tickets from Chesapeake Liquors located at 6720 Governor Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. Her lucky retailer earns a bonus of $202 for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off in the $20 game.
This instant ticket in circulation since Nov. 18 has 30 chances to win. Players can search for 171 unclaimed top prizes of $20,200 and 390 unclaimed second-place prizes of $2,020.
