Army Veteran Doubles His Bonus Match 5 Prize to $100,122

Fort Washington man played lucky numbers twice on one ticket

A longtime Maryland Lottery player who duplicated his lucky numbers on two lines of a Bonus Match 5 ticket hit not once but twice in the June 22 drawing, becoming $100,122 richer!

The 74-year-old Fort Washington resident bought a seven-day, or seven-draw ticket. Bonus Match 5 players can select up to nine lines of five numbers on a single ticket, and the top prize for matching all five numbers on a single line is $50,000. Our winner was so confident in his lucky numbers that he played two identical lines of 7, 11, 19, 27 and 31. When those five numbers were drawn, he won $50,000 for each line. And, the Prince George’s County resident won an additional $122 because some of those numbers also were included on the other seven lines on his ticket.

“It’s a nice experience,” said the U.S. Army veteran.

After working for more than 20 years as a director with the Washington, D.C., Department of Housing, our winner retired 27 years ago. He enjoys playing golf and regularly trying his luck at Lottery games. He said he’s been playing the same Roulette wheel numbers for years and buys Mega Millions and Powerball tickets every week. The father of two and grandfather of three said he plans to put his prize money into an account and save it for his family.

Our winner bought his ticket at Safeway #1882 at 990 Swan Creek Road in Fort Washington. The retailer is a winner, too. For selling the game’s top-prize ticket, the store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

Bonus Match 5 drawings are held seven nights a week and televised live on WBAL TV 11 at 7:56 p.m. Monday through Saturday and between 8:22 and 8:30 p.m. on Sundays. Videos of the drawings are available online at mdlottery.com/mdlottery-tv.
