Arnold Player Scores $100,000 Prize on First Day of Wife’s Retirement

Buys lucky Cash Club scratch-off at Maple Lawn Market in Howard County

For a Maryland Lottery player from Arnold, the Jan. 9 purchase of a $10 Cash Club scratch-off quickly turned into a $100,000 boost to the family retirement fund.

That lucky day was the first day of retirement for the scratch-off player’s wife. The husband is already retired and had a dental appointment in the Fulton area. On his way home, in celebration of his wife’s retirement, the husband stopped at Lottery retailer Maple Lawn Market (and BP gas station) at 8181 Maple Lawn Boulevard in Fulton.

“I picked up one ticket, scratched it and there it was,” he recounted while claiming his prize Jan. 24 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

Although happy to have the windfall, the player and his wife have no immediate plans for the extra money beyond adding it to their retirement fund. At 70, he plans to continue his retirement routine of regularly working out at the gym and enjoying his leisure time.

Also enjoying the big win is his Lottery retailer. For selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, Maple Lawn Market in Howard County picks up a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

The Anne Arundel County man’s prize was the fifth of 10 $100,000 top prizes claimed on the Cash Club ticket, leaving another five big winning instant tickets awaiting discovery. Also unclaimed are 19 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others in the range of $10 to $1,000. The game went on sale Nov. 18, 2019 and is in the number 8 spot on the Maryland Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-Offs chart.
