Confirms prize amount with a little help from My Lottery Rewards app

207-Hit-It-Big-ITVM_P1-goldAn Arnold woman who enjoys playing an occasional Maryland Lottery scratch-off had a lucky day when she purchased a $20 Hit It Big ticket worth $10,000.

She found her winning scratch-off at Green Valley Marketplace, located at 1238 Bay Dale Drive in Arnold. After buying the instant ticket, the mother of two returned home, scratched it off and started revealing prize amounts that left her puzzled. Her ex-husband was visiting and she gave him the task of interpreting the value of the ticket.

“I kept finding more prizes and I handed it to him and said, ‘Here, you do this,’ ” she said. “And he started saying, ‘Look at this, it’s more!’ ”

The two of them remained uncertain about the size of the prize until a few days later, when their son came over and scanned the ticket with the My Lottery Rewards app on his smartphone. That’s when they knew for sure: $10,000!

Although divorced for 20 years, the two arrived at Lottery headquarters together to claim the prize and emphasized that they continue to have a positive relationship. Indeed, the winner gave her ex-husband the responsibility of holding on to her winning ticket until they could come to Baltimore to claim the prize.

“I have a way of putting things away for safekeeping and then not being able to find them again,” the lucky winner said with a laugh. “So, I gave it to him to take care of.”

The grandmother of one has a second grandchild due this fall. She plans to use her prize to start a college fund for her second grandchild and pay for home improvements. The loyal player also has a subscription to Mega Millions. The largest Lottery prize she won previously was $1,500 several years ago.
