Baltimore FAST PLAY Novice Wins Big on First Purchase

Claims $50,000 prize on Lucky Numbers game

Was it beginner’s luck? A Glen Burnie woman bought her first FAST PLAY ticket a few days after she learned of the Maryland Lottery’s new category of games. She thought her Lucky Numbers game was a $50 winner until a second set of eyes revealed the actual size of her prize was $50,000.

The 61-year-old found her lucky ticket because she was in the mood to dine on crab legs. She visited Giant #2312 located at 6626 North Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie to buy the savory ingredients and, while there, noticed the new FAST PLAY product at the Lottery kiosk. The Anne Arundel County resident was so excited to try the game that she put $20 in the machine for a $10 ticket and forgot her change.

She knew right away that she had a winner and went to redeem her ticket, expecting $50. The player was stumped when told her ticket couldn’t be cashed until the clerk explained that she held a $50,000 winning ticket.

“I was shaking and crying,” said the lucky winner. She frequently plays Mega Millions, Powerball and Keno, but this makes her first big win. She has only shared news of her win with her children and husband. The federal government retiree plans to use her prize to pay off a new car that she just financed.

The Lucky Numbers game still has 37 progressive top prizes remaining and 56 more $50,000 prizes. The progressive top prize starts at $100,000 and grows with each sale until the next progressive top prize winning ticket is sold: it then resets to $100,000. Lucky Numbers is one of the five new FAST PLAY games. Also in the lineup are the $1 Piggy Bank Bucks, $2 Cherry Twist, $3 Treasure Chase and $5 Hit $250 games.
