Baltimore Grandfather Takes Home $50,000 Triple Green Crossword Prize

A 55-year-old Baltimore man, anxious about his win, came into Lottery Headquarters Tuesday morning after a sleepless night. The lucky grandfather-of-two bought one Triple Green Crossword on Monday and scratched it at home to reveal a $50,000 win.

The winner, who works in fire restoration, said he bought the ticket because it was newer than some of the others. His friend, who accompanied him to claim his prize, encouraged him to try that game. “I told him the odds looked pretty good,” she said.

“I really enjoy the crossword puzzle games,” said the very excited winner.  “When I saw the win, I screamed so loud I woke up my grandson.”

The frequent Lottery player, who is raising his youngest grandson, said he’ll be able to make his grandson’s birthday and Christmas very special. “My grandson wants one of those motorized cars, so I am definitely getting that for him,” he said.

He said he plans to save the rest of the money, “You need a little nest egg, because you never know what life may bring your way.” The winning ticket was purchased at New City Mart located at 1184 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore City.
