Robert Kroening began playing Keno just six months ago and has already racked up three large prizes. His $48,000 win was the latest and largest, but he has also won $3,600 and $4,600 playing the game. Winning tends to run in the family as the 47-year-old told Lottery officials that his brother recently won $250,000 playing Mega Millions.
Since losing his construction job back in September, Robert sometimes meets up with his friend and neighbors to play Keno, relax and unwind. His playing strategy is consistent. “I always play the same ten numbers,” said the 47-year-old.
He discovered his good fortune with his wife, Wanda, by his side. “She and I were checking on mdlottery.com to find out how much the ticket was worth,” he said. “We couldn’t believe it when we found out it was $48,000.” Referring to Wanda, Robert said, “She’s my financial advisor and she knows how to handle money.” The happy twosome intend to use the winnings to pay off Wanda’s car, pay off their RV and free up some debt, so that all that remains in the mortgage to pay “This couldn’t have come at a better time,” Robert said with a smile. “What a great way to start the year.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Joe’s Tavern on Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.
