Baltimore Man’s Number Switch Yields Five-Figure Racetrax Prize

“Mr. Lucky” of Baltimore makes a last-minute switch of his Racetrax numbers and wound up claiming a $20,177 prize.

Wins $20,177 playing popular virtual horseracing game

A 36-year-old Racetrax fan from Baltimore City found his way into the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Circle this week to celebrate his $20,177 prize. A last-minute switch in his numbers led to the big Superfecta win.

“Mr. Lucky,” a name he selected because this is his second Lottery-related win, was grocery shopping with his girlfriend on Saturday when he decided to play his favorite game.

“I normally play 1, 2, 6 and 7,” he said, but he kept seeing the winning numbers 2, 6 and 7 appear in several races. Just as he placed his bet, “something said to play 12,” said “Mr. Lucky.”

He listened to his inner voice! The winner placed a $16 wager on a Racetrax Superfecta ticket with the numbers 2, 6, 7 and 12. The virtual horses crossed the finish line in that exact order! “Mr. Lucky” didn’t find out he was the big winner until later that night, when he scanned his ticket using the Maryland Lottery App.

“I turned to my girlfriend and said, ‘I just won 20 grand’,” recalled “Mr. Lucky.” He is no stranger to the Maryland Lottery, having won a 2018 Warehouse Dash second-chance promotional trip to Chicago. The father of two ran through a warehouse for 90 seconds and collected as much merchandise as he could. “I walked away happy,” he said.

The truck driver has no immediate plans for spending this prize, but said he will faithfully continue to play his favorite game.

“Mr. Lucky” purchased his Racetrax Superfecta ticket at Redner’s Warehouse Market in Baltimore. The Lottery retailer located at 7938 Eastern Avenue will receive a $201.77 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
