Baltimore Resident Gets ‘Fantasy’ Fulfilled

Becomes first $50,000 winner on Fantasy 5s scratch-off

A Baltimore woman who had a hunch about a lucky Lottery retailer bought a bunch of scratch-off tickets and ended up a big winner.

She remembered that a friend of her family won a significant amount of money from Lottery tickets that were purchased at a Citgo gas station in Glen Burnie. She was in that area and feeling lucky, so she stopped there and decided to try a handful of the recently launched Fantasy 5s ticket. After scratching just three of the $5 tickets, she had her fortune: She won the first of the game’s seven $50,000 top prizes.

It was a great surprise to the 24-year-old, although she’s no stranger to Lottery games. Her parents, who are avid scratch-off ticket players, periodically buy tickets for her.

“I started screaming,” the happy winner said, adding that she was so frantic when she called her father to tell him the news that he thought something bad happened to her. After sharing the news with her father, she called her grandmother who then told other family members. Everyone thought it was a joke at first, until she showed them her winning ticket.

The lucky woman has worked as a server at a local restaurant for five years and is also in the process of completing a massage therapist certificate program. Part of her winnings will help to pay off her student loans. She also plans to give money to family members and take a cruise in November.

Ritchie Highway Citgo, located at 7237 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, is also a winner. For selling the top-prize-winning scratch-off ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery. The Fantasy 5s ticket launched on Feb. 22, and six of its $50,000 top prizes are still waiting to be found, along with thousands of other prize-winning tickets ranging from $5 to $5,000.
