The retired federal government employee started scratching the instant ticket off while in the store, but waited until she got home to finish.

“I started scratching it and saw that I had a few matching numbers, each worth $500,” said the great-grandmother. “That’s when I decided I better rush home and finish scratching it there since it was a big winner.”

Once home, she finished scratching off the $10 instant ticket and added up all of the prizes for a grand total of $10,000. The 66-year-old put the scratch-off in a safe until ready to claim her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“I wanted to wait to cash it until I knew what I wanted to do with the money,” the happy woman told Lottery officials. The lucky lady, who spends her free time volunteering, will purchase some new furniture for her house with her winnings.

The Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket, Bay City Liquors, is located at 4901 Frankford Ave. in Baltimore. The $250,000 High Rollers Club game still has prizes of $10 to $1,000 remaining and March 28, 2017 is the last day to claim prizes.
