Claims top prize on Bingo Times 10 scratch-off

When Sandra James entered Hamilton News in Baltimore, she thought her Lottery experience would probably turn out the same way it did every time she visited the store. The loyal scratch-off player made her regular purchase of four $5 instant tickets and three $10 tickets. She took the tickets home to scratch them, just like she always does. That’s when the Baltimore woman’s routine experience changed.

While scratching a $5 Bingo Times 10 ticket, Sandra first noticed that she had four corners on one of the bingo cards. “The four corners would have given me $500, and I was happy with that,” she told Lottery officials.

Sandra continued scratching and the four corners turned into an “X,” which awards a $10,000 prize. In addition, the ticket had a five times multiplier, giving her the $50,000 top prize.

After calling her husband to share the news, the 56-year-old took the winning ticket back to the Lottery retailer to verify the win.

“We still didn’t believe it, so when I got home, I also took the ticket back to the retailer,” said her husband, Alvin. “I had to see it with my own eyes.”

Both Sandra and Alvin are retired from the military. With the prize, they plan on paying bills and adding to their savings account. They also plan to treat themselves to a nice dinner.

Hamilton News is located at 5438 Harford Road in Baltimore. For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
