Baltimore Scratch-off Team Splitting $100,000 Prize

James Price of Baltimore is splitting a $100,000 Ca$h Bonus instant ticket prize with his scratch-off partner.

Lucky pair found top prize in $10 Ca$h Bonus game

James Price of Baltimore told Maryland Lottery officials that running his small business keeps him very busy, but he still finds time to enjoy the hobby he shares with his cousin. The pair play Lottery games together, splitting the work – one picks the instant tickets and the other scratches them off. On Wednesday, they split the work once more, each taking half of a $100,000 scratch-off prize.

“We choose them at random,” James said, “my cousin does, that is. He’s always been the lucky one.” That luck was never more apparent than last weekend. The 58-year-old and his cousin were leaving Bacchus Bar in Baltimore, scratching off the handful of instant tickets they purchased there, when they revealed their biggest win ever.

“When I finished scratching off the Ca$h Bonus ticket, my cousin said, ‘Hey, look, that’s a $10,000 winner,’ ” said James. “I looked at it closely and then I told him to look again and add another zero.”

Both men were shocked. “My cousin always picks scratch-off winners, but nothing like this,” James added.

The pair will pay bills with the winnings and James also plans to buy his wife a gift.

The $10 Ca$h Bonus scratch-off arrived on retailers’ shelves in August. This $100,000 top-prize win leaves six more awaiting discovery along with six $50,000 second-tier prizes and 19 $10,000 prizes.

Also enjoying Lottery luck are the owners of Bacchus Bar, located at 1220 West North Avenue in Baltimore City. The Lottery retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize winning instant ticket.
