Claims top prize on the Biggest Taxes-Paid Ever scratch-off
A Baltimore grandmother who plays Maryland Lottery scratch-offs regularly is glad she ignored her initial feelings about the Biggest Taxes Paid Ever scratch-off. Although initially opposed to the idea of adding the $5 ticket to her scratch-off purchases one morning, she is certainly glad she changed her mind. The taxes-paid ticket made her $50,000 richer!
“I am still stunned,” the happy senior said. “I’ve won smaller amounts, but never anything like this.”
Retired from the Sweetheart Cup Company in Owings Mills, our winner spends most mornings scratching off a few instant tickets at her favorite spot, the Sherwood Market at 6324 Sherwood Road in Baltimore. She is her mother’s caregiver and plays Lottery scratch-offs for fun. One recent morning, she stood in the store trying to decide which tickets to buy to brighten her day.
She remembers looking at the Biggest Taxes Paid Ever scratch-off and thinking she would buy something else. “I’m not buying this ticket, I don’t even like this ticket,” the 70-year-old recalls saying to herself. Yet, she did buy it and wound up a winner! When she realized the size of her prize, the lucky player immediately went home and shared the news with her family.
“That ticket was burning my pocket all weekend,” she said. So, she signed the back of the scratch-off and hid it in a jar in her dining room until she could claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
Our winner plans to treat her mother and grandson with her newfound wealth and make some home improvements.
