Baltimore Woman Claims 2016’s First Bonus Match 5 Top Prize

Takes home $50,000

A 71-year-old Baltimore woman became the Maryland Lottery’s first Bonus Match 5 winner of 2016 when she won the $50,000 top prize in the Saturday, Jan. 2 drawing.

Her lucky numbers came from a previous “Quick-Pick” ticket dating back to last summer. The winner gave the numbers a try when she bought her ticket at Plaza BP in Baltimore. What a surprise! Those numbers wound up matching all five Bonus Match 5 numbers in the drawing.

“She had taken a little break and just started playing those numbers again a few weeks ago,” said the winner’s daughter, who accompanied her mother to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her prize. “I’m really glad she won – she deserves it!”

The winner, who takes care of her own mother full time, doesn’t have many specific plans for her prize. In addition to paying bills, she might – at her daughter’s urging – take a much-deserved trip to visit her son in South Carolina.

The retailer located at 6220 Reisterstown Road is also a winner! The Lottery will give the store a bonus of $500 for selling the lucky top-prize ticket in the game.
