Beginner’s Luck Brings Mass Transit Employee Big Lottery Win

Claims $20,000 prize on MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB game

A loyal Maryland Lottery player enjoyed a true case of beginner’s luck with the multistate MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB game by winning $20,000 in the Nov. 14 drawing.

After leaving work at about 7 p.m., the Maryland mass transit employee stopped at U.S. Gas located at 1463 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore where she and many of her co-workers buy Lottery games. The 34-year-old usually plays Pick 4 and Mega Millions. This particular evening, however, she decided to take a shot at the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB game and selected her own numbers for the upcoming drawing.

The busy Baltimore resident didn’t realize her ticket was a winner until a week later, when she was at home alone watching a Nov. 21 drawing and remembered to check her $5 ticket. She still has not told anyone – even her son – about her win.

The happy woman hid her lucky ticket in her passport for more than a month until she could make her way to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her prize. “It was burning a hole in my pocket,” she said. The happy woman plans to save most of her winnings and make an additional payment on her mortgage.

The Maryland Lottery and other lotteries around the country suspended sales of the top-prize game following the Dec. 26 drawing. The game launched in October.
