Bel Air Resident Stops for Gas, Wins $10,000 Prize

Lucky lottery player wins big on Crossword Deluxe scratch-off ticket

261-Crossword-Deluxe-ITVMA 70-year-old Bel Air woman could not believe her Lottery luck after she won a $10,000 prize on the Crossword Deluxe scratch-off ticket.

The excited winner, who has worked for more than 35 years as an internal program specialist for a government agency, won her prize after stopping for gas at the Rock Spring Carroll Motor Fuels station, located at 1467 Rock Spring Road in Bel Air.

“While I was there, I picked one of the extended play crossword scratch-offs because they tend to a last little longer,” she said. “But first I noticed that the retailer had all the scratch-offs numbered and I picked the eighth one. Eight represents the birthdate of my late son. So I picked whichever scratch-off was numbered eight.”

The lucky lady said she knew she had won big when she scanned her ticket using the store’s ticket checker.

“It told me that the scratch-off ticket I had just bought was too large to cash and that I should come straight here to Lottery headquarters, so here I am,” she said.

The Harford County resident added that she feels the Rock Spring Carroll Motor Fuels station is a lucky Lottery retailer.

“The same day I won, another customer purchased a $5 scratch-off ticket and ended up winning a $10,000 prize as well,” she said. “Now do you see why I think that’s a lucky store?”

The lucky winner said she plans to use her prize to pay off her car, make a few home improvements and put money into savings for her retirement. She won the final $10,000 prize on the $10 Crossword Deluxe ticket, which launched last March.
