Eastern Shore Man Wins $50,000 from Lucky Times 20 Scratch-Off
Eight years ago, Craig Sterns suffered two serious heart attacks and as result of his health scare made a major change in his life: he quit smoking. Little by little, extra money accumulated in his pocket and he began spending it on something a little healthier – Lottery tickets. This spending change paid off yesterday when Sterns purchased a Lucky Times 20 scratch-off ticket and won $50,000.
Sterns, a high school physics teacher at Stephen Decatur High School, “plays smart” and carefully chooses his scratch-off purchases. He knows the odds and chooses accordingly. The regular Keno and scratch-off player buys most of his tickets from the same Lottery retailer and can be found there most mornings scratching tickets, sipping coffee and talking with local residents.
While he will take his family to a big seafood dinner this week, the married father-of-two plans to retire “debt-free” in a few years and will put most of his winnings toward his mortgage.
The winning ticket was purchased at Your Store Market at 10137 Old Ocean City Boulevard in Berlin.
