Cambridge woman wins $10,000 with game bought in December
A Dorchester County woman who made a single Maryland Lottery scratch-off purchase right before Christmas happily discovered her $10,000 holiday surprise – in March! The 48-year-old won with the Big Play Crossword game!
Chalk up part of her delayed discovery of the prize to the fact that she’s not a regular Lottery player. The lucky woman bought one Big Play Crossword scratch-off on a whim in December while buying beverages at Best Wine & Spirits at 2831 Ocean Gateway in Cambridge.
“The thought to get the ticket just popped in my head,” said the Cambridge resident. “Since I like crossword games, I chose that ticket.”
The legal secretary scratched the $10 instant ticket in December and thought it was a winner, but wasn’t sure. She set it aside for months. Two weeks ago, the lucky woman checked the last date to claim the game’s prizes at mdlottery.com.
“I had a little bit of time, so I figured I should find out how much I won and cash it,” she said.
Trips to several Lottery retailers led to the discovery that the scratch-off was worth $10,000. “I was so excited and happy,” she said, smiling.
The scratch-off novice hid the ticket in her kitchen cabinet until claiming her prize last week. The lucky lady, who said she might play again, plans to use the prize to make home repairs.
