Hagerstown’s Barbara Bach plans to celebrate her birthday in style after winning $10,000 playing the Bingo Gold scratch-off game.
Hagerstown grandmother wins $10,000 prize
A Hagerstown woman has more than one reason to celebrate these days. Her birthday is a week away and she just won $10,000 playing the $10 Bingo Gold scratch-off game.
Barbara Bach loves bingo-style scratch-off games and usually opts for the $5 bingo tickets. On July 6 she visited Roxy Liquors in Hagerstown, but the store was sold out of her favorite $5 ticket. So Barbara purchased three Bingo Gold tickets and returned home to play them.
“I like the bingo games because they last longer,” said the 64-year-old bookkeeper. “It’s more fun to have the game stretched out.”
As Barbara took her time scratching the tickets, she noticed something on one of them right away: She had four corners. Then, as she took a closer look, she realized it was more than that. She matched enough numbers to form an “X” across the card. And that touched off a celebration.
“That’s $10,000!” she said.
Barbara immediately ran to tell her husband the good news.
“I was screaming, ‘Look at this, I won,’” she recalled, adding that she returned to Roxy Liquors, located at 761 East Wilson Boulevard, to confirm the prize amount. When the retailer told her the prize was too large for her to cash it there at the store, the reality of her $10,000 win truly began to sink in.
The mother of three grown children and grandmother of seven said she plans to pay some bills with her prize and put some into savings. She added that her birthday, on July 14 would be extra special this year.
The Bingo Gold ticket launched in August 2016, and three of its $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, along with eight more $10,000 prizes, 27 $1,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $500.
