Birth Dates Give Rockville Mom a $50,000 Powerball Win

Maya Haddad of Rockville won a $50,000 prize in the March 22 Powerball drawing.

Lucky numbers deliver big prize

Maya Haddad of Rockville is astonished at how close she and her husband came to hitting a Powerball jackpot worth over $155 million in the March 22 drawing. The pair did not walk away empty-handed, though. They were the only Marylanders to win a $50,000 prize and were among 41 $50,000 winners nationwide.

“I’ve been only playing these set of numbers for about three months,” Maya said. “This is such a blessing that I won, especially with these numbers. These numbers are special because they are a combination of the birth dates of my son, my husband and myself.”

The 32-year-old said the couple routinely plays Powerball and Mega Millions and this prize is their largest to date. “Besides winning this $50,000, which I am still shocked about, we won a $1,000 prize playing a scratch-off ticket a few years ago.”

They will put most of the prize into their 2-year-old’s college fund, she said. “We also would like to use a small portion of the money for a preplanned trip to Florida that we’re going on in a few weeks.”

There was a single jackpot winner in Wisconsin for the March 22 drawing. The couple’s lucky retailer is Rockville Pike Shell located at 1911 Rockville Pike in Montgomery County.
