Bonus Match 5 Novice Wins Game’s $50,000 Top Prize

Buys winning ticket in June 3 drawing

A 51-year-old loyal Maryland Lottery player from Prince George’s County entered the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters all smiles after winning $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5.

The Bladensburg man, who was a Bonus Match 5 novice, won his Lottery loot after stopping by the Bladensburg Exxon to play his daily numbers.

“I had stopped by the gas station earlier to get my numbers in after getting off work,” he said. “I had never played Bonus Match 5 before so I figured I would give it a shot.”

After a day or so passed, the lucky novice decided to check his $4 Bonus Match 5 ticket at a Lottery retailer to see if he had won. The message on the ticket checker delivered the great news!

The winner’s niece, who accompanied him to Lottery headquarters, said that this win could not have happened to a nicer person. “My uncle is always giving to people,” she said. “When he gets his taxes back, he gives his family a little bit of that (refund), too. He is an amazing man.”

The happy winner plans to buy a new truck with his newfound fortune and share some of the prize with family members and friends. He will put the rest into savings. “This is really such a blessing for me,” he said. “I’m still pinching myself.”

Also happy with his big win is the lucky Prince George’s County retailer. Bladensburg Exxon located at 5650 Annapolis Road in Bladensburg earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the daily game.
