St. Patrick’s Day Drawing delivers big win
A Clinton Bonus Match 5 player found his personal pot of gold on St. Patrick’s Day, when he bought a $2 ticket for that night’s drawing at a favorite Maryland Lottery retailer. The great-grandfather won the game’s $50,000 top prize!
A retired federal government employee who dubbed himself “Highly Blessed,” the Prince George’s County resident has played Bonus Match 5 for years and enjoyed his share of small wins. He always plays family birth dates on one game board and lets the terminal quick pick numbers for two other game boards. Lottery luck was waiting for him on March 17 at Clinton Crossings Exxon in Clinton, which has a nice stay-and-play area that “Highly Blessed” enjoys.
He usually checks his numbers every day, but his wife beat him to it on March 18. “Highly Blessed” was still sleeping when his wife woke him up to ask if he had checked the latest Bonus Match 5 results.
“She knows the numbers I play,” he said. “She said to me, ‘I’m glad you’re sitting down. All of your numbers came out last night.”
The happy couple is planning to pay bills with the prize and put some of the windfall into savings.
Clinton Crossings Exxon also has reason to celebrate. For selling a top-prize-winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, the retailer located at 8915 Woodyard Road in Clinton earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
