Bonus Match 5 Player Scores Valentine’s Day Win

Claims $50,000 top prize in Feb. 14 drawing

Many players have high hopes for a big Maryland Lottery win. An Upper Marlboro woman, however, bought a Bonus Match 5 ticket for the Feb. 14 drawing and didn’t stop to dream about a Valentine’s Day prize. Lottery luck found the 54-year-old anyway, bringing her a $50,000 top-prize win.

“I didn’t get my hopes up,” she said, noting that she won $1,000 playing Bonus Match 5 last year. On her lucky day, the loyal player visited Wawa #595 located at 701 Annapolis Road in Gambrills where she plays Bonus Match 5 and other draw games several times a week. She purchased a $6 quick-pick ticket from the Lottery kiosk.

After the evening drawing, the married player saw the winning numbers and five matches that delivered the $50,000 prize. “I was in shock,” she said.

The Prince George’s County resident works for the federal government. Although not impacted by the recent partial government shutdown, she greatly appreciates this win and will spend the prize to pay bills and build her savings.

The Valentine’s Day winner shared the news of her Lottery luck with her husband of 25 years but plans to keep her win private. Wawa will also share in her good fortune, earning a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning ticket in the daily game.
