A Bowie man’s off-the-cuff decision to buy a few Mega Millions tickets brought Maryland’s tally of second-tier prize winners to 23 since January of 2009. The soft-spoken gentleman matched all five white balls to strike it rich on the multi-state jackpot game.
In addition to ringing up 23 $250,000 Mega Millions’ wins, Maryland has also awarded 118 $10,000 prizes this year.
“I play only once in a while,” said the man. “I just bought $5 worth when I stopped to buy a bottle of wine.” The man suspected that he may have won something after a couple numbers on his ticket appeared familiar to those that were broadcast on television. “I went to the store and got a printout of the winning numbers,” he said. After comparing them to his own numbers and discovering that he was $250,000 richer he quietly left the store. Displaying little reaction to his newfound wealth, the man has not shared the news with anyone, not even his wife. “I will show her the check when I receive it,” he stated.
The lucky, laid-back winner intends to give his prize money to his wife and children and donate to his church. The winning ticket was purchased at Chesapeake Market BP, located at 12300 Annapolis Rd. in Glenn Dale.
