Bowie Man Nabs $50,000 Keno Prize

Lucky player ties for 5th largest win in game’s history

A 33-year-old Keno fan is reveling in a $50,000 win that was one for the history books. He tied for the fifth largest Maryland Lottery Keno win of all time by betting $60 on a one-draw, 8-spot game.

The Prince George’s County man stopped for gas at Forbes BP in Lanham on Saturday and decided to play one game of Keno with the Super Bonus multiplier option. He waited for his game to play and stood in shock as he watched seven of the eight numbers on his ticket appear.

“I thought, ‘Oh, I’m about to become a millionaire,’ ” said the single father of one.

Knowing that Lottery headquarters was closed over the weekend, the happy player signed the back of his ticket, packed it away and proceeded to enjoy a quiet weekend with his family. The excited Bowie resident arrived at the Lottery on Monday to claim his prize. He told Lottery officials that he has not decided what to do with the winnings.

“For now, I’ll just wait and see,” he said.

There have been three other $50,000 Keno wins in recent years. The highest Keno win came back on May 2, 2016, when a lucky player won $500,000 in Gambrills.

Also a winner is his lucky Lottery retailer, Forbes BP. For selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more, Forbes BP located at 9701 Annapolis Road in Lanham earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
