Bowie Mom Wins $100,000 Lottery Prize with Taxes Paid

Played Bonus Match 5 during doubler promotion

She was simply speechless.

The Bowie woman sat silently, with a big smile on her face, in the Winners’ Lounge at Maryland Lottery headquarters flanked by two adult daughters. The siblings were talking and laughing while their amazed mom sat still and quietly enjoyed the moment.

Our lucky winner entered Lottery headquarters thinking she won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5. Minutes later, the 76-year-old learned her ticket was a doubler and qualified for a promotion that paid taxes on her winnings. She went home a $100,000 winner!

She plays Bonus Match 5 every day and usually picks up her ticket at the Wegmans in Lanham. On this trip to that grocery, she bought seven boards for $5 with five draws from Oct. 31-Nov. 4. She checked her numbers on the computer Sunday morning, Nov. 3, and discovered to her delight that she was a winner! The Nov. 2 drawing had hit one board of her machine-picked numbers: 4-9-25-26-30.

She immediately began calling family members. One daughter remembers the phone call and telling her mother, “What? Are you sure? That’s phenomenal!”

Both daughters say they have convinced their mother not to divvy up the winnings among family members. She still works and plans to keep doing so. “I’m sure they’ll have a merry Christmas,” the mother said. Other than that, she is not sure what her plans are for her winnings.

She bought her lucky ticket at Wegmans at 9001 McHugh Drive in Lanham.
