Timing could not have been better for a Montgomery County man who scratched his way to a $50,000 Silver & Gold prize. Set to graduate from college this coming spring, the 23-year-old was worried about paying his student loans. “Now, I can pay my student loans without interest,” he said. “I’m ecstatic!”
Accompanied to Lottery Headquarters by his parents, the lucky winner has been a fan of the Lottery since turning 18. He purchased the Silver & Gold ticket last month and partially revealed his win while scratching it in the store. “I saw one of the winning numbers,” he said. “When I realized it was going to be a big winner, I headed home.” On the way, he called his mother and said, “I’m pretty sure I won something big.” As soon as he got home, he scratched the rest of the ticket and learned that he was $50,000 richer.
The civil engineering student plans to use all of his winnings to pay his loans. The winning ticket was purchased at 29 Convenience Mart, located at 10755 Colesville Rd. in Silver Spring. The Silver & Gold scratch-off still has a $1 million top-prize and three $50,000 prizes remaining.
