Claims top prize on You Win instant game
A bus driver as unaccustomed to sitting idle off the job as on the job found a lucrative way to pass the few minutes between Maryland Lottery Keno games – play scratch-offs! The 68-year-old selected the perfect route to Lady Luck and picked up the $50,000 top prize on a You Win scratch-off.
“When you’re not accustomed to ever winning anything this big, you really can’t believe that you are, indeed, a big winner,” the Forestville resident said. “It’s shocking.”
The man and his girlfriend had stopped by David’s Liquors in Hyattsville to play a few games of Keno. They decided to buy a scratch-off to play between games. The $5 winning ticket was actually their third choice.
“We had wanted to buy one of the Christmas scratch-offs but the machine was all out,” said the Prince George’s County resident. An equipment issue nixed their second choice. “We just grabbed the You Win ticket and that was what happened to us, we WON!”
The happy couple plans to enjoy the prize together. They will first take a much-needed trip to the Caribbean, maybe to Jamaica, and then will save the rest of the prize.
“We are thrilled and we feel very happy that this lovely couple won big,” said retailer Jigiadinc Patel of David’s Liquors. “This is certainly one of the biggest wins we’ve had here. It’s excellent! It’s exciting!”
For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer located at 7025 Annapolis Road will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The You Win scratch-off has three $50,000 top prizes and nine $5,000 second-tier prizes remaining.
