Cambridge Resident Wins $50,000 on Green Doubler Scratch-off

Ticket launched in May delivers its first top prize to father of five

263-Green-Doubler-ITVMA father of five from Cambridge got lucky on the first ticket of a fresh book of Green Doubler scratch-offs last week.

After purchasing the $5 ticket at the Happy Market, located at 222 Washington Street in Cambridge, he scratched it in the store. A week later, he was joined by his son who translated for him as he claimed a $50,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“He didn’t believe it at first,” the winner’s son said. “He couldn’t believe that he’d won the top prize.”

After confirming that he’d won $50,000 with the store’s cashier, the retail worker called his son to share the good news, and later on the family had a celebration. The most he had ever won before on a Lottery ticket was $100.

The winner’s son said the family had been planning to finish the payments on a couple of vehicles this year, and the prize money will make that easier to do. The retailer is a winner as well. For selling the top-prize-winning $50,000 ticket, Happy Market will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The Green Doubler ticket launched in May, and this was the first of its seven $50,000 top prizes to be claimed. In addition to the six other $50,000 prizes, the ticket still has 11 $5,000 prizes and thousands of additional cash prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
