Finds first top prize after weeks of playing High Card Scratch-off
A Cambridge woman came bounding into the Maryland Lottery’s winner lounge on Tuesday, thrilled with her $20,000 High Card scratch-off win. According to the 57-year-old, this win was in the works for a while.
As it turns out, the lucky winner had enjoyed quite a bit of luck on this $2 ticket over the past several weeks. “I had won $100, then another $100. It was only a matter of waiting for my turn to come up to win the big one,” she said.
The big moment came when the woman scratched her ticket and revealed eight matching numbers. “I was just going down the ticket saying, ‘Yep, that’s a winner, uh huh, another winner, winner, winner, winner, check!’ ”
Quickly, the woman called her son to share the news. “He wasn’t surprised at all. He just told me how he knew this would happen sooner or later,” she laughed.
The lucky lady has some big plans for these winnings. In addition to paying rent and catching up on bills, there is an exciting trip in her future. “I’m going to Jamaica. I’ve never been and now I’m definitely going to go.”
The big winner found her ticket at the Ocean Highway Exxon, located on 324 Sunburst Highway in Cambridge.
