Couple scores top-prize win in $250,000 Rich game
Finding a forgotten Maryland Lottery scratch-off in your car is exciting, but finding one worth $250,000 can put you “in shock,” said a Wicomico County mom, speaking from personal experience.
The lucky lady bought a $10 scratch-off at Isabella Street Exxon in Salisbury last weekend. She scratched it off, never realizing that Lottery luck had found her at last. In fact, she left the $250,000 Rich instant ticket in a compartment in the car door.
“We just noticed it today,” she told Lottery officials on Monday, April 1, after claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters. “We were cleaning out the car.”
Her husband scanned the instant ticket on his smartphone using the Maryland Lottery app and saw a message that was no April Fools’ Day joke. The message directed them to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters. Hiding in the last line of the scratch-off was the number 13, which matched the winning number 13. Beneath the number was the $250,000 top prize. The happy couple are truly lucky — this big win follows a $100,000 scratch-off prize the Eastern Shore pair won several years ago.
“The Sparkle Family,” as they dubbed themselves, have big plans for this windfall. They plan to pay off some bills and buy a bigger house with more land.
Their lucky retailer also gets to share in the fun. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, Isabella Street Exxon located at 501 W. Salisbury Parkway earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
There are still plenty of prizes awaiting discovery in the $250,000 Rich game including three more $250,000 prizes, five $20,000 prizes and 16 unclaimed $10,000 prizes.
