New Carrollton Man Wins $50,000 Top Prize
Gregory Ferguson Jr. loves Maryland Lottery games and plays them often. He loves the fun of playing and the possibility of a big win. On Thursday, he experienced both when he scratched his way to his first large Lottery prize. The 31-year-old was on his way home from work and, as is his custom, stopped to buy some scratch-off tickets. Because he was taking a friend home, he diverged a bit from his typical routine and bought his tickets at a different location. He purchased four Cash Craze Crosswords, his scratch-off game of choice for the past week and a half.
“I go online and check to see what prizes are remaining,” said Gregory. His good deed, a new locale and his Lottery research were a winning combination for the father-of-two “I scratched the tickets at home,” said Gregory. “The first two, I didn’t win anything. The third one, well, I didn’t believe it. I still don’t believe it.”
Gregory examined his ticket each day, until arriving at Lottery headquarters to claim his win. “I wanted to make sure it didn’t change on me.” Gregory has shared his good news only with his girlfriend, who also remains unconvinced. “She told me, ‘you didn’t win anything,’” said Gregory. When his money arrives, as Lottery officials assured him it would, the skeptical winner will finally be 100% assured that he is $30,000 richer. Besides putting money into savings, Gregory has no real plans for his winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at Landover Hills Exxon, located at 6579 Annapolis Rd. in Landover.
