The late shift is tough duty, reports Eastern Shore plumber David Morse Jr. He often stops on his way to work to buy an energy drink to give him some extra oomph to get through the long night. The Preston man’s pitstop on Sunday night gave him all the energy he could ever require after he discovered he’d added a $50,000 winning 50x the Cash instant ticket to his purchase.

David reports being very calm when he revealed his big Maryland Lottery win.

“I’m pretty low-key in general,” said the 27-year-old. “I didn’t really react at all, just looked at it a few times to make sure. Then, I called my wife. She didn’t believe me!”

David plays Lottery games infrequently. “I’d be surprised if I spent $10 a month on tickets,” he said. The Caroline County resident cannot explain why he bought a 50x the Cash scratch-off – three, actually – that Sunday at 7-Eleven #34278 located at 212 Grange Hall Road in Queenstown.

“I went in to get an energy drink and my change was $10,” he said. “When I turned around to leave the store, there was the vending machine and my eyes went right to this ticket.” The first 50x the Cash scratch-off netted him $20, which he immediately used to buy the two additional scratch-offs.

“I scratched those two out in my car,” he said. “The first won me $10, which I thought was still pretty cool until I scratched the second one.”

He and his wife will use their $50,000 prize to pay off the loan on a family car.

The 50x the Cash game is one of the Lottery’s newer scratch-offs. So far, players have found two of the game’s eight $100,000 top prizes and three of 10 $50,000 prizes. A member of the Lottery’s Multiplier family of games, the 50x the Cash scratch-off is joined by a 5x the Cash game, 10x the Cash and 20x the Cash games. And, there’s a second-chance contest!
