Win $10,000 Playing Scratch-off
Allen and Marcia Heyman of Sykesville have always enjoyed playing scratch-offs but never had a reason to come into Maryland Lottery headquarters. That changed one day, three weeks ago, when Marcia purchased the $20 Hit the Jackpot scratch-off with some money she found in her pocket. Her unplanned purchase revealed a $10,000 prize.
“I started scratching off the ticket and saw $5,000,” she explained.
Marcia quickly showed her husband, who also enjoys scratch-offs, and then finished checking the ticket. Low and behold, there was another $5,000 prize on the ticket, bringing their total winnings to $10,000.
When asked if they have won a prize this large before, Allan proudly said, “We’ve won $1,000 three times before and $500 a couple of times.”
The couple held on to the ticket for over three weeks before bringing it into Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim. After signing the back of the ticket, Allen kept it in their bedroom for safekeeping.
“This was the first day I had off,” Marcia said. “We’re off tomorrow as well, so we thought we’d make it a long weekend.”
To celebrate finally claiming their prize, the couple planned to visit The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore with their niece, who had accompanied them. The Heymans will use the money from their big win to pay off Marcia’s car.
Marcia purchased their “jackpot” winner at Martins #307 located at 1320 Londontown Boulevard in Eldersburg. There are two $1 million, three $50,000 and 12 $10,000 prizes remaining on the ticket.
