An Eldersburg man is very happy that he kept with tradition last week and purchased one Powerball ticket and four Mega Millions tickets. The lucky man matched four white balls plus the Powerball to win a $10,000 third-tier prize from last Wednesday night’s drawing.
“I buy just one ticket for every Powerball drawing and more for Mega Millions,” he said. He always purchases Quick Pick tickets for both games.
On Thursday morning, the retired military and Social Security employee checked the winning Powerball numbers in the newspaper. After comparing the winning numbers to his ticket, he waited for his wife of 19 years to come home to verify the win. “My wife tells me that I look at the numbers too fast, so I wanted her to make sure I wasn’t seeing things,” the 63-year-old said. Once his wife confirmed the win, they checked the Lottery’s website to find out how much it was worth. “When I found out it was $10,000, I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
The winner plans to pay bills with his prize. The happy couple leaves for a cruise in a few weeks, and this money will help towards the already-planned vacation.
The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Carrolltowne Liquors, located at 1708 Liberty Rd. in Sykesville.
