Carroll County Man Wins $50,000, Remembers Mom

Bonus Match 5 winner said his late mother predicted $50,000 prize

A Union Bridge family spent some time at Maryland Lottery headquarters on Dec. 2, claiming and celebrating the prize they won in a late-November Bonus Match 5 drawing. While there were no tears, they did share a few sad moments remembering the family’s recently departed matriarch who had predicted their $50,000 win.

“This is from my mom,” the 40-year-old father of two said. “I am sure of it.”

His mother, who passed away this past summer, enjoyed playing Lottery games and often told her children that the family would someday win a big prize.

“Whether it was putting the lucky numbers in my head when I bought the ticket or nudging one or two of those Ping Pong balls, she made it happen,” said the winner, who manages an automotive supply business and is an avid hunter.

He purchased the lucky ticket at the Corinthian Lounge at 7107 Windsor Mill Road in Woodlawn on Nov. 22. The family checked the Bonus Match 5 results that night and was stunned by what they found: They matched all five numbers, giving them the game’s top prize of $50,000.

“Shock and joy, one after the other,” he explained, adding that bills and a major home repair project top the family’s list of plans for the prize money.

For selling the winning ticket, the Corinthian Lounge will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Bonus Match 5 drawings are held seven nights a week. Players select five numbers from 1 to 39. A Bonus Ball is drawn from the remaining 34 numbers, providing players with extra chances to win. Tickets range from $1 for one line of numbers up to $6 for nine lines.
