Carroll County Retailer Sells $1 Million Powerball Ticket

Seven states have second-tier winners

We’ve got a $1 million Powerball winner! The Maryland Lottery is looking for the lucky player who bought a winning ticket worth $1 million at Piney Run Liquors in Sykesville for the Saturday, Jan. 17 drawing. Ten players in Maryland and six other states matched five of the winning numbers in the drawing to capture $1 million second-tier prizes.

No one won the Powerball jackpot, which rolls to $208 million for the Wednesday, Jan. 21 drawing with a cash option of $142.7 million.

The lucky $1 million Maryland ticket sold at Piney Run Liquors, which is located at 577 Johnsville Road, missed only the Power Ball number. Check your ticket to see if it carries the winning numbers of 15-16-23-27 and 36. The Power Ball was 9.

The other states with $1 million winners are California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Maryland also had a $10,000 winner and a total of 15,895 winners of $4 or more.

This is the second $1 million Powerball win in Maryland in 2015. The Maryland Lottery is still waiting to meet the lucky player who bought the $1 million winning ticket from the Food Lion at 1565 Hyde Park in Baltimore for the Saturday, Jan. 10 drawing. Also still unclaimed is a $2 million winning ticket sold at Keller’s Liquors at 865 W. 36th Street for the Dec. 10 drawing. For selling the latest winning ticket, Piney Run Liquors will receive a $2,500 bonus. The winner has 182 days to claim the prize in person at Lottery headquarters, located at 1800 Washington Blvd. in Baltimore.
