Matched all seven numbers on ticket
A Carroll County trio of friends who played a winning game of Keno together walked into the Maryland Lottery Winner’s Lounge with their $25,020 prize on their minds and big smiles on their faces.
Lottery luck reached and touched the three men in February while they were hanging out at Vanessa’s Corner Pub in Westminster. The New Windsor man who claimed the prize selected the lucky numbers for the seven-spot game. The numbers had no special significance at the time – until they landed the big windfall for the friends! Their lucky numbers were 3, 4, 13, 23, 56, 69 and 71.
“We thought we had only played $5 per game, but we had played $10,” one of his friends said. They played the same numbers for five draws, or games on Feb. 20. “When we learned that we had won more than $25,000, we were shocked. We thought it was only $500!”
A pub employee checked their ticket to see if it was a winner and delivered great news: the trio must go to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. The excited woman said she had never before seen that message appear when she checked tickets!
The 32-year-old who picked the numbers is no stranger to Lottery luck. Both a family member and a neighbor won big Lottery prizes in recent years.
How will they spend the prize? The Carroll County Public Schools employee and his friends have not yet decided! They do plan to keep playing the Lottery at their lucky location, Vanessa’s Corner Pub, which is located at 2600 W. Liberty Road. The lucky retailer will receive a bonus of $250 from the Lottery for selling a Keno ticket over $20,000.
