Grocery store sells state’s second big Cash4Life winner of the week
Maryland Lottery Cash4Life players are on a roll, and Valentine’s Day became extra special for a grocery store shopper in Baltimore!
Giant store #317 at 4624 Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore City sold a ticket for the Friday, Feb. 14 Cash4Life drawing that delivered the game’s second-tier prize of $1,000 a week for life. Meanwhile, Salisbury is still buzzing about the Wicomico County resident who won the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life just three days earlier, in the Feb. 11 drawing.
The winning numbers in the Friday night drawing were 20, 42, 46, 57, 59; and the Cash Ball was 1. The winning ticket that was sold at the Giant on Edmondson Avenue matched the first five numbers, but missed out on winning the top prize because it did not match the Cash Ball. The winner should sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe location before bringing it to Maryland Lottery headquarters at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore. Winners of all Maryland Lottery draw games have 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim.
The Cash4Life second-tier prize of $1,000 a week for life is paid in annual installments of $52,000 (before taxes). The winner also has the option of receiving a one-time payment of $1 million (before taxes). The retailer is a winner as well. For selling a Cash4Life second-tier winning ticket, the Giant store at 4624 Edmondson Avenue will receive a $2,500 bonus from the Lottery.
The Maryland Lottery began selling Cash4Life tickets in January 2016, and this is the game’s third second-tier prize winner in Maryland. The Salisbury winner earlier this week was the state’s third top-tier winner in the game.
Cash4Life started in 2014 in New York and New Jersey. The game is now available in nine states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. Tickets are $2, and drawings are held nightly at 9 p.m. Players select five numbers from 1 to 60 and a Cash Ball number from 1 to 4.
There are nine prize tiers, ranging from $2 to the “for life” prizes of $1,000 a week and $1,000 a day. To win the top prize of $1,000 a day for life, players must match all six numbers that are drawn. Matching the first five numbers without matching the Cash Ball number delivers the second-tier prize. The game has awarded a total of 39 top prizes and 86 second-tier prizes.
