Cash4Life Produces Top-Prize Winning Ticket in Maryland

$1,000 a day for life coming to lucky winner

Talk about the best day ever! A lucky Maryland Lottery player just made history by becoming the second person in Maryland to win $1,000 a day for life, courtesy of the Cash4Life game.

The player bought the winning ticket in the Aug. 7 drawing from Giant located at 3757 Old Court Road in Baltimore. He or she will receive $1,000 a day for life paid in annual installments of $365,000. The winner may also opt for a one-time cash payment of $7 million (before taxes). Check your ticket for the winning numbers of 6, 20, 25, 32 and 50; the Cash Ball was 2.

“Congratulations to our lucky winner and to the state of Maryland,” said Gordon Medenica, director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming. “We’re looking forward to meeting the player who won this life-changing prize.”

In May 2016, a Frederick County Public Schools employee claimed a $1,000 a day Cash4Life prize, choosing the $7 million cash option.

The winner has 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Lottery officials strongly encourage the player to sign the back of the ticket immediately and keep it in a safe location until claiming the prize. Our top-prize winner wasn’t the only happy Cash4Life player in the Aug. 7 drawing, which saw one $2,500 Maryland winner and a total of 8,587 Maryland winners of prizes of $2 and up.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming began offering the Cash4Life game in January 2016. Nine states participate: Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Tennessee. Since the game began in June 2014, Cash4Life has had 22 top-prize winners (including this win) and 41 second-tier winners. The second-tier prize offers players the option of $1,000 a week for life, paid in annual installments of $52,000, or a one-time payment of $1 million (before taxes). Six other prize levels range from $2 to $2,500. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 8.

In Maryland, tickets are available at nearly 4,600 Lottery retailers and cost $2 for each line of six numbers. Drawings take place Mondays and Thursdays at 9 p.m. and can be viewed live on mdlottery.com. The cutoff time for purchasing tickets on drawing nights is 8:45 p.m. For selling the top-prize ticket, the Giant grocery will receive a $7,500 bonus from the Lottery.
