Cashing a Winning Scratch-off Leads to Much Bigger Prize

Westminster man finds $50,000 winning 50x The Cash instant ticket

A decision to cash a $100 winning scratch-off on Sunday set off a series of very fortunate events for a 26-year-old Westminster man, who is still trying to wrap his head around the fact that he won a $50,000 prize on the 50x The Cash game.

The father of three went to Royal Farms #62 located at 1818 Baltimore Blvd. in Westminster specifically to cash a $100 winning instant ticket. While there, he decided to buy two of the $10 50x The Cash scratch-offs and one other $10 scratch-off. The lucky player left the store and scratched off the games at home.

“I knew right away it was a winner, when I saw the 50x symbol on top of the $1,000 prize,” he said. “I still asked my girlfriend to use her Lottery app to scan the ticket.”

“When I saw the $50,000 come up, I knew it was really true,” said the winner’s girlfriend. “I went running through the house screaming.”

The winner shared the news with close family members and friends and enjoyed a routine Sunday evening. The lucky landscaper placed the instant ticket on his dresser and slept peacefully. Although he wanted to claim his prize on Monday, work duties delayed his arrival until Tuesday.

The Carroll County resident plans to wait until he sees the winnings in his bank account before deciding what to do with his prize. He said he will probably save it, but his girlfriend has other ideas. “Maybe a wedding,” she said, smiling at him.

The 50x The Cash game, which debuted in late January, has six $100,000 top prizes, seven $50,000 prizes and 21 $10,000 prizes remaining. The popular game is a member of the Lottery’s Multiplier family of scratch-off games, which includes 5x the Cash, 10x The Cash, 20x The Cash and 100x The Cash instant tickets.
