Casual Sunday Outing Leads to $100,000 Scratch-off Win

A 35-year-old Silver Spring man was in for a $100,000 surprise because of a decision he made last Sunday.

The lucky man had passed a 7-Eleven and decided to pop in to buy a couple of scratch-offs. He purchased two $100,000 Crossword games and went home to play them. The loyal player scratched his games but wasn’t sure if he won or not. The next day, during a break from his job as a painter, the hopeful Montgomery County resident returned to the 7-Eleven to check the ticket. The cashier delivered the astonishing news by handing him a slip of paper showing the ticket was worth $100,000!

“I was super happy,” said the big winner. “I just never imagined this would ever happen.”

The father of two sons immediately called his wife to share the news and then stopped at home to hide the ticket before returning to work. His wife, who accompanied the winner to Lottery headquarters along with his mother to claim the prize, doubted his big win was true.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said, smiling. “I told him to go back and check it again.”

The happy player is uncertain of how he will spend the prize other than helping his family members.

The lucky 7-Eleven #34366 is located at 11406 D Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. For selling the winning $100,000 Crossword game, the retailer will earn a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

There are seven $100,000 top prizes left on this popular scratch-off game, 22 $10,000 prizes and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
