Pablo Martir of Catonsville won $10,000 on the Classic Crossword scratch-off ticket.
Loyal Lottery player wins $10,000 scratch-off prize
Pablo Martir has been playing Maryland Lottery games for seven years. Ever since he bought his first ticket, he told lottery officials, he has known that he’d someday win a big prize. Well, that someday turned out to be Feb. 28. The 44-year-old construction worker brought his dream full circle when he visited Lottery headquarters on Feb. 29 to claim a $10,000 prize he won playing the Classic Crossword instant game.
“My wife and I enjoy playing all kinds of Lottery games, especially the scratch-offs,” Pablo said, adding that he stopped on his way home from work to buy a few tickets to bring home. “I decided to play one while I was there and picked out Classic Crossword.”
Pablo scratched his ticket and quickly scanned it on the ticket checker in the store.
“The readout told me to visit Lottery Headquarters,” he said. “I knew that meant it was a big winner. I was so happy. I looked up and said, ‘Thank you.’”
Pablo found his good fortune at the Hind & Company gas station at 1022 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville. His lucky ticket, Classic Crossword, has been available since last July and has just one $50,000 top prize still unclaimed along with three more $10,000 winners.
Pablo said he plans to use his prize money to buy property for his family still living in his native El Salvador.
