The phrase “All in the Family” has taken on new meaning for one Cecil County family after “Bob” followed his routine of playing Bonus Match 5 using his grandchildren’s birthdays.

Last weekend, the Elkton retiree had a feeling he can’t explain. Something told him that he was going to win playing his favorite Maryland Lottery game. That’s why, after purchasing one ticket at Station Spirits in North East on Friday, he stopped at Country Store in North East on Sunday to purchase two more.

“I don’t know what it was, but I had a feeling I was going to win big,” said the grandfather of three. “The past few years, I’ve won something around Christmas, but not this year. I guess it came a little later. I’ve never won anything close to this amount.”

The lucky winner checked his numbers at mdlottery.com following Sunday night’s drawing. When he told his wife of 50 years, Judy, that he won on three tickets, she didn’t believe him.

“Once before, I thought I won big but was one number off,” he said, chuckling. “Because of that, my wife didn’t believe me until I had proof this time!”

The gracious man decided to share the winnings with his son and daughter, Beth. Although Bob and Beth haven’t decided what they are going to do with their prizes, his son told Lottery officials that he will use his portion toward his child’s college tuition.

Lottery retailers who sell winning top-prize Bonus Match 5 winning ticket receive a $500 bonus. Since two of the winning tickets were sold at Country Store at 2815 Northeast Road, that store will receive $1,000. The other location, Station Spirits at 2546 Pulaski Highway in North East, will receive a $500 bonus.
