Greenbelt player wins $50,000 top prize on Lucky Numbers scratch-off
A 19-year-old cement worker from Greenbelt has a concrete financial foundation, thanks to a $50,000 top-prize win in the Maryland Lottery Lucky Numbers scratch-off game.
Asked if he has plans for the windfall, “Joe the Winner” said he did not have anything special in mind. “We’ll just see what happens. I’ll just save it up.”
It was on Nov. 18 when he and his uncle, who both work for the same business, were at Orbit Beer & Wine at 9900 Greenbelt Road in Lanham. “Joe the Winner” decided to buy a $5 Lucky Numbers instant ticket while his uncle shopped for adult beverages. When our loyal player got to the end of the second of three lines of scratch-off symbols, he revealed a 10X symbol over the prize amount of $5,000 and immediately realized he was a big winner.
“I couldn’t believe it!” he exclaimed. “Joe the Winner” wasted no time celebrating his big win. His family had a pre-Thanksgiving feast the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Orbit Beer & Wine shares in the luck as the store picks up a bonus of $500 for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
Two of the original eight top prizes are unclaimed in the Lucky Numbers game. In addition, there are five prizes remaining at the $5,000 level and seven at the $1,000 level along with tens of thousands of others ranging from $5 to $500.
