Anne Arundel County resident wins $50,000 scratch-off prize
A 56-year-old scratch-off ticket enthusiast from Lothian visited Maryland Lottery Headquarters on Nov. 23 to claim a $50,000 prize she won the previous day when she gave up on one instant game and tried another.
She turned to Classic Crossword, and that decision rewarded her with a top-prize win.
“I love bingo and crossword tickets,” said the Anne Arundel County Schools employee, who won $10,000 on another scratch-off ticket earlier this year. A bingo game that she’s been playing recently hasn’t been paying off for her. Fortunately, the 7-Eleven she visited on Nov. 22 had more of her favorite kinds of tickets available.
“I scanned the ticket there at the store and saw that it was a winner, though I didn’t know the prize,” she said. “I figured it was $1,000.”
When she examined her Classic Crossword ticket a few minutes later in the car she saw the true total.
“I was stunned,” she said. “I quickly called my husband and told him, ‘Guess what, honey. I did it again.’”
The Anne Arundel County resident plans to pay several family bills with her winnings.
“There will be enough left over to make this Christmas a great one for our entire family,” she said.
The lucky winner purchased the ticket at the 7-Eleven at 5809 Deale-Churchton Road in Deale. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Classic Crossword launched in July and still has two more $50,000 top prizes waiting to be found, along with nine $10,000 prizes.
