Berlin player wins with Magic Number Bingo game
A loyal Maryland Lottery bingo scratch-off player didn’t even bat an eye when she saw that her local retailer was sold out of her regular $10 bingo instant ticket.
The Berlin resident switched games – a lucky move, as it turns out!
“I routinely buy the $10 bingo ticket and the $10 ones were out,” said the grandmother of six. “So, I bought eight of the $5 ones.”
The Worcester County woman left Southside Deli, Beer & Wine in Berlin and took the Magic Number Bingo games home to play. One of the tickets showed promise.
“I was only missing one number and the 36,” she said. “At first, I was ready to trash it.”
But one last careful look at the scratch-off had the 71-year-old shouting for her grandson to come see if her instant ticket really was a $50,000 top-prize winner. He checks all of her games for her.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said.
“I checked it seven or eight times, every single number,” her grandson said.
Indeed, the win was real! The next day, he drove his grandmother to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim her big prize. The happy mother of two adult children, who is semi-retired, said the winnings will help her pay off her bills. She also plans to use some of the money to pay for dental work and share some with her family.
Her lucky retailer also benefits from her win. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, Southside Deli, Beer & Wine, located at 11021 Nicholas Lane #7 in Berlin, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
Magic Number Bingo has four unclaimed $50,000 top prizes, nine unclaimed $10,000 prizes, and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
