Couple wins $50,000 Powerball prize
Changing up their play routine certainly changed the Lottery luck of a married team of jackpot chasers from Caroline County. They won a $50,000 Powerball prize in the March 25 drawing!
“He usually buys the tickets,” the wife told Maryland Lottery officials while visiting the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters. “But, I remembered a dream I had more than a year ago and I decided to change things up.”
Avid fans of the Lottery’s jackpot games, the Eastern Shore couple has enjoyed plenty of small wins over the years but never got lucky enough to claim a large prize. “I was just shocked when I scanned the ticket with the Lottery app,” she said. “I was so amazed that I almost cursed – and I never curse.”
Oddly enough, the pharmaceutical distributor dreamed of this win last year. In her dream, she had purchased a big prize-winning Lottery ticket at BJ’s Wholesale Club in Easton. “I saw myself in that specific store,” she said. “It was bizarre.”
The 61-year-old and her husband happened to be near that very store in March when memories of her dream surfaced. “I told my husband that I was going to get a few tickets this time,” she said, and the rest is history. One $2 quick-pick ticket brought home the big bucks!
The happy couple plans to take care of a few bills with the prize and put the bulk of the winnings into the bank. “Our kids, grandkids and great-grandkids will see quite a bit of this,” she said. “We have lots of birthdays and graduations, and then eventually Christmas to plan for.”
The dream-inspired $50,000 Powerball win came to them through the BJ’s Wholesale Club #322 located at 28410 Marlboro Avenue in Easton. The lucky woman was the only Marylander to win a $50,000 prize in the March 25 drawing and was among 17 $50,000 winners nationwide that night. The jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $40 million with a cash option of $24.3 million.
