Christmas Gift for Mom Delivers Lottery Luck

White Marsh mother wins $55,555 on a gifted scratch-off

Funky 5sA Baltimore County mother received a Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket as a gift from her son on Christmas. Her son had decided to purchase $5 Funky 5s scratch-offs for each adult family member who attended their holiday gathering in White Marsh. His gift certainly kicked off a joyous celebration once the lucky woman scratched her ticket.

“I only buy Lottery tickets once in a while, usually when the jackpot is really big,” the mother of four told officials. “So when my son gave me the ticket I was pleased that he’d thought of me, but to be honest, it didn’t do much for me.”

That sentiment would change a few minutes later, however when she unveiled a sizeable prize. “I scratched part of the ticket and saw that I’d won $10,000 – I was shocked,” she said.

The whole family celebrated the win not knowing more excitement was to come only moments later. “It was pretty fun in there, pretty crazy,” she recalled. “And then someone saw that I hadn’t scratched the whole thing.”

If the $10,000 Funky 5’s win shook the walls of the house, the celebration once the family realized the ticket was worth $55,555, lifted the roof. The woman and her husband came into Lottery headquarters first thing on Thursday morning to claim her Christmas prize. The lucky couple plan to spend much of their winnings paying off a recently purchased RV.

The woman’s son purchased the Funky 5s ticket from the Edgewood Amoco Station at 2201 Pulaski Highway in Edgewood. The game has three more $55,555 winning tickets in stores.
