Coffee Purchase Leads to $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Hyattsville man wins top prize on $500 Frenzy scratch-off

A coffee break led to a $50,000 Maryland Lottery scratch-off win for a happy 39-year-old Hyattsville man. He stopped to buy coffee last Monday and decided to run into TJ Beer-Wine-Liquor, which was right next door, to play some of his favorite Lottery games. Included in his purchase were two $5 scratch-offs – one of which was a very lucky $500 Frenzy instant ticket.

“I liked the look of the game, that’s why I chose it,” said the winner.

The loyal Lottery player scratched off his games in the store. The first instant ticket was not a winner, but the $500 Frenzy scratch-off carried the game’s top prize.

“The first thing I saw looked like a $5,000 win,” said the married father of three, smiling. “But, after I inspected it further, I saw it was $50,000!”

The Prince George’s County mechanic hurried home to share the news with his wife, children and other family members. He immediately taped his winning scratch-off under a desk until he had the chance to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The happy winner plans to pay off bills with his prize and allocate some of the win toward a vacation.

Also in the money is the lucky retailer that sold the instant ticket. TJ Beer-Wine-Liquor Liquor located at 7669 New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park earned a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game.

The $500 Frenzy game has three more unclaimed $50,000 top prizes along with thousands of others ranging from $5 to $5,000. The game is a member of the Frenzy family of scratch-offs. Get caught in the frenzy and check out the $1 $50 Frenzy, $2 $100 Frenzy and $10 $1,000 Frenzy instant tickets!
